In today’s Gospel, Jesus is asked about how many people will be saved and enter into the kingdom of God. “Lord, will only a few be saved?” (Lk 13:23). Jesus is great in the words he uses to answer this question... “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.” (Lk13:24). We cannot wait for the end to right our selves, or to think of salvation as a moment that we can be prepared for at an instant. Jesus says to strive for the narrow door because to do so takes work, patience, and the understanding that it is not easy. If we wait, and continue to live an arbitrary life where we decide the good and bad, and only in the end do we show interest in the truth, that is not the right mindset to be in and it is not where are heart should be. Just as the quote above says, will we choose to one day in the future to change our ways and to follow the Lord, to love our neighbor with a true and pure love, or will we choose today to be the first day of a new life. Will we choose today to be the day of many days to come where we are living out our baptismal call and evangelizing not by word alone, but by the life we are living? All in all, it is still our choice, and this is one of the greatest gifts God has given us, our ability and freedom to choose to love him, because choosing to love is true love.
Reflection: Will I make today “one day, or day one?” in following Christ?
Lord God, thank you for today and every day. Thank you for your grace and mercy. Please Lord, help me see your light and allow me to shine it forth. Assist me oh God, to have my life be a witness to you, to have me strive every day through trial and tribulation to follow and do your will. Send forth your Spirit, that I might live today with an open heart to you and to all. I pray, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen.
