In today’s Gospel Jesus gives a parable of a great feast which focuses on those invited more than the feast itself. Jesus gives examples of people who were invited having come up with many excuses not to come to the feast, and this is supposed to be paralleled to the way we make up excuses in our own lives for not following God. “For, I tell you, none of those men who were invited will taste my dinner.” (Lk 14:24). The man in the parable then reaches out to those people on the outskirts, and for anyone else who is available to come to the feast to fill up the spots that were meant for those invited. Jesus is inviting us now into the Kingdom of God, yet we find ourselves making excuses and desiring to make our own decisions. When we make excuses, we are not prioritizing our time with God. How can we put something above our relationship with our creator? It is because we do not grasp the severity of the invitation. We are being called to be in eternity, to be in the mutual indwelling of the Holy Trinity, to be in constant love with love, yet we decide to make other things our priority.
Reflection: What is most important to me?
Lord God, thank you for today and everyday. Thank you for your love and mercy that you shine down upon me. Oh God, help me to see the light of your love in all that I do and in everyone that I am with today. Please Lord, help me to make you the priority of my life. Send forth your Spirit Lord, that I may be humbled in knowing that you are my all in all. I pray, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen.
