In today’s Gospel we see Jesus once again challenged because of his miracles and the power which it comes from. He tells them that there is no logic to saying that the works he is doing is from the evil one because a house that is divided will fall, for Satan cannot be one thing while doing another, for this reason the miracles that Jesus is doing with love comes from the one who is love; God. He then talks about the forgiveness of sins and though he has miraculously healed the physical ailments of people, he is also here to forgive our sins. “Amen I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin.” (Mk 3:28-29). It is important to not speed pass these verses for fear of misinterpretation. Christ is saying that God has the power to forgive any sin and blasphemy, for He can do all things, but there has to be a recognition of guilt and acceptance of love and mercy on the part of the sinner. To deny the mercy of God, to deny the love of the Holy Spirit, to deny the sacrifice of Christ, this is what is unforgivable; the unforgivable sin is that which is the rejection of God who is love and mercy.
Reflection: How can I prepare my heart to go to confession?
Lord God, thank you for today and everyday. Thank you for your love and mercy. Place in me a clean heart oh God, a heart that loves and forgives, just as you love and forgive me. I pray, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen.
