"Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love." Saint Therese de Lisieux
Here at your Christian Action, we have been prayerfully discerning and planning on how to safely reopen the food and clothing pantries. Christian Action is here to serve people in our parish and in our community. We serve registered parishioners and our neighbors in crisis living in the following zip codes: 77062, 77058, 77059, 77598, 77034. Starting in January, we will begin to transition from food distribution on Thursdays to serving our community from our food pantry.
A big thank you to Simon Lamarche and Sarah Mueller for deep cleaning the food pantry shelves on their Christmas break!
As your Christian Action food pantry transitions to re-open, we are re-stocking the food pantry in the month of January. The food pantry needs the following items:
Each year we ask our St. Bernadette family to choose one or more items they would like to sponsor for our food pantry. Please note that we are working on a virtual way for you to sponsor a specific pantry item for 2021. |
Christian Action relies on the ongoing donations of clothing and food, from our parishioners and community, to be successful. Christian Action is a parish ministry to research, facilitate and initiate charitable works within the parish and community. To accomplish this, it is essential that we maintain an awareness of the physical and emotional concerns of our parish and community. We assist parishioners, and those within our community, in times of crisis, promote an awareness of the needs of the underprivileged, and provide the opportunity for parish members to become directly involved with charitable works.
We are able to help our neighbors in need with food, clothing and provide financial assistance on a case by case basis. Sometimes we are able to meet special needs requests. We work closely with other agencies and churches in our community to offer assistance to those in need. We provide information to clients and also offer referrals to other organizations for additional assistance.
We serve our twinning parish, Immaculate Heart of Mary, throughout the year with events such as: the Lenten Parish-to-Parish drive; Back-to-School supplies; Thanksgiving food boxes and Christmas Giving Tree gifts. Several other social agencies make weekly donation pickups that mainly service our community.
Christian Action facilitates many activities throughout the year such as: the Back-to-School supplies drive; Helping Hands; Thanksgiving and Christmas boxes; Christmas Giving Trees, and the Lenten Soup Suppers. These Social Justice groups are vital, active members of the social ministry community of St. Bernadette's. Our Parish Social Ministries serve as forums for our parishioners to express their faith in action.

An easy way to support your Christian Action Food Pantry is through the Kroger Community Rewards Program. Even if you have linked your card in the past, you need to re-enroll for 2018. Here are the steps:
That is it! Every time you shop at Kroger (once you are enrolled), you will be helping your food pantry here at St. Bernadette. THANK YOU! |
