In today's Gospel we hear Jesus praising his Father in heaven. Jesus here is beginning to truly mark the relationship he has with God the Father, "No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him" (Lk 10:22). When looking through salvation history; through creation in Genesis, the story of the Jewish people, all the way through the Resurrection of Jesus, all of this we see is God communicating to us, his people. God, by way of a multitude of avenues, is communicating to us his love and his unconditional and unending desire for us to choose to be in communion with him. This communion with God is known as the mutual indwelling of the love of the Holy Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We see the Father building the relationship with the people of Israel, the Son as the fulfillment of the law and the New Covenant, and the Holy Spirit being sent forth to us with the graces to be able to be good and virtuous, yet in all of this they are one and complete. This is the mystery of the Holy Trinity; how three can be one, yet we find it through the revelation of Jesus Christ that he is the Son of God, he is fully human and divine, and we use the language of relationship of Father and Son to help make the distinction of persons without separating that which can never be separated.
Reflection: How can I better know the Father through Jesus?
Lord God, thank you for today and everyday. Thank you for your love and mercy. Please Lord, send forth your Spirit, that by your light I may see in all that I do today how I may help to build up the kingdom of God not only in my heart but in those I am around. I pray, through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen.
